Peace in a Storm – Hope on the Horizon

Good morning!

How was your day yesterday?

Mine? . . . In the midst of a “storm” . . .  it was filled with Peace!

Peace in a Storm

This last month has not turned out as I had expected.  Without going into too many details, let me just say – a storm blew in and has increased, and what was a survival mode has turned into crisis mode lately.  It’s like a tornado appeared in this storm and swallowed us up.

BUT . . . I have Peace!

In the midst of this storm/tornado – I have to consciously and intentionally choose to not focus on the storm/tornado (ie – the bad feelings, fears, anxiety, anger, doubt, etc that the enemy throws in there) – but to choose to look out at the light on the horizon . . . the hope of a new day. I reach out and grasp onto that!

THAT is what sustains me. I hold onto the promises of God over me,my husband (together and individually) and my family (I reread many journal entries and declared them over this situation and my family), and I choose to believe what God says over what my feelings, situation, circumstance, the enemy and even the world around me might be saying!

God’s truth will ALWAYS supersede and override the “facts”

that our feelings, situations, circumstances and even the enemy present us with!! (yes – our feelings can lie to us!  It feels real, it looks real, but it’s not the “truth”!)

Trust, Rejoice and Sing!

After talking with my sister on the phone last night – about this tornado we were in and the hope I was grasping and holding onto – I opened my Jesus Calling book and read the devotional for Oct. 3rd.  It was perfect timing! (It always amazes me how God times these things perfectly!)

Here’s a portion of it:

When many things seem to be going wrong, trust Me. When your life feels increasingly out of control, thank Me. These are supernatural responses, and they can lift you above your circumstances…[she talks about a downward, dark, slippery spiral of negativity.  Hmm . . . sound like a tornado somewhat!]  Affirm your trust in Me, regardless of how you feel. Thank Me for everything, though this seems unnatural – even irrational…If you choose supernatural responses this time – trusting and thanking Me – you will experience My unfathomable Peace.

It was followed by Psalm 13:5 (but all of chapter 13 so applies!):

David felt like God had left him, that He was hiding His face from him, that he was going to have to “wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart”, that his enemy was triumphing over him . . . BUT  – David then says – “I trust in your unfailing love, my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord for he has been good to me.” !! 🙂

God of Hope

Be encouraged – to know that whatever you are going through . . . you are not alone! Reach out to others around you – be transparent – and you might be amazed at who else is going through, or has been through, something similar.  You might discover a blessing, or might even be able to be a blessing (yes – even in the midst of your own storm!)!

And above all – there IS a God of hope that is ready, able and willing to help you through it! Look towards that hope (that light on the horizon . . . no matter how small and far away it seems right now!), reach out and grasp it – hold onto it with all your might – even when your feelings tell you otherwise!

Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. “

Today – I put my trust in God and His promises, and I am thankful for Him and His sustaining and healing love that brings joy and peace – even in the midst of a storm!  Praise the Lord!

Now I’m gonna go Sing! 🙂
